Lackey leads Angels to blanking of Dodgers
Baseball Betting Lines
06/29/2008 -
Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - John Lackey came within an out of his first
shutout this season, yielding just three hits in the Angels' 1-0 victory
over the Dodgers in the finale of a three-game series.
Lackey (6-1) walked two batters and had nine strikeouts to win his fifth
consecutive start. He's lasted seven or more innings in all nine of his
outings this season and has a 5-1 lifetime record against the Dodgers.
"I would have liked to have finished, but we got it done with a win. My
breaking ball was good, my fastball was good, I was able to give the bullpen a
rest," Lackey said. "It was one of those days I had to make one run hold up."
Juan Rivera was 2-for-4 and scored the game's lone run on Mike Napoli's single
as the Angels snapped a three-game losing streak. They did it a day after
losing 1-0, when the Dodgers didn't get a hit.
Francisco Rodriguez came on for Lackey in the ninth with men on first and
second. A wild pitch moved Delwyn Young, who singled, to third while Russell
Martin, who walked, remained on first. Rodriguez then walked Jeff Kent to load
the bases, but got James Loney to ground out on a chopper to second for his
major league-leading 32nd save.
Derek Lowe (5-8) pitched seven innings allowing just one run on five hits and
two walks while striking out seven for the Dodgers, who had a modest two-game
winning streak halted. They had blanked the Angels in the first two contests
of the series.
The Dodgers, who did not record a hit in eight innings of a bizarre 1-0 win
Saturday night, had just three singles Sunday by Juan Pierre, Kent and Young.
The Angels scored the only run in the second. Rivera singled with two outs,
and Gary Matthews Jr. walked before Napoli singled to right field.
Pierre singled with two outs in the sixth for the Dodgers' second hit of the
day. He stole second, but injured his left leg on the play and departed the
game. Andre Ethier grounded out to strand pinch-runner Young, who remained in
the game to play left field.
Pierre was the only runner to reach second base before the ninth inning for
the Dodgers as Lackey retired 14 consecutive batters before Pierre's single.
"John looked good in the pen warming up. He had a good fastball, his curveball
was sharp and he's got a feeling for his change-up," catcher Napoli said. "He
was putting pitches where I wanted it."

Eastern Conference Playoff Betting Trends
We all know by now that the “public” loves to put their money on the FAVORITES and the OVERS. Just by taking a quick glance at Sportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends” it appears as is this tendency will continue as far as the Eastern Conference games are concerned. For the inaugural games of the first round, 69% of the early money is on Toronto -4.5; 59% of bettors prefer Chicago -4.5; 84% are backing Detroit -9; and 56% think Cleveland -11.5 is the way to go. For example, if you are siding with the public you better place your bet before the line moves in the wrong direction. On the other side of the coin, if you prefer the team that the “public” is betting against; you might be able to get and extra ½ or even more by placing your bet a bit later. Online Sportsbook odds for Stanley Cup
New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
