Marlins use two-run ninth to steal series from D-backs
Baseball Betting Lines
06/29/2008 -
Miami, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Hanley Ramirez hit the game-tying solo home run
in the ninth inning, and Jorge Cantu singled in Jeremy Hermida with the game-
winner, handing the Florida Marlins a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the
Arizona Diamondbacks.
Arizona took a 3-2 lead into the ninth with closer Brandon Lyon on the mound,
and Lyon struck out pinch-hitter Wes Helms for the first out. Ramirez ripped a
hanging breaking ball over the fence in left, however, his 18th homer of the
season, to knot the game at 3-3.
Hermida followed by slicing a ball to the opposite field, which fell on the
line in left for a double. A wild pitch by Lyon allowed Hermida to advance to
third, and Cantu grounded through the drawn-in infield and into left,
plating Hermida for the win.
"It just makes me more hungry to keep producing and put up those big hits,"
Cantu said. "Everybody's swinging, everybody's hitting the ball, and man,
we're just putting nice wins together. That's what matters and keeps us in the
hunt."
Ramirez went 2-for-4 for the Marlins, who took two of three from the
Diamondbacks despite playing the finale without star second baseman Dan Uggla,
who sat with an ankle injury.
Scott Olsen gave up five hits and three runs over seven frames for a no-
decision, while Joe Nelson (1-0) pitched the scoreless ninth and picked up the
win for Florida, which had dropped four straight entering the three-game set
with the D-backs.
Dan Haren struck out seven and walked two over seven innings, holding the
Marlins to one run on five hits. Lyon (2-2) gave up three hits and two runs in
one-third of an inning, taking the loss and his third blown save.
Stephen Drew hit a two-run homer for Arizona, which has dropped four of five
and seven of nine.
"It's a tough one, especially going home," Lyon said. "It's a long flight out.
The way we played this series we should have come out of here with at least
two out of three. That's kind of the way things are going right now."
Drew's two-out, two-run blast to right in the third, his 11th, gave the D-
backs the early lead.
Cody Ross' RBI double to right in the sixth cut the Arizona edge to 2-1, but
Chris Burke restored the two-run lead with an RBI single in the seventh.
Robert Andino, who started at second for Uggla, laced a run-scoring single to
center with two outs in the eighth to make it a one-run game heading into the
ninth.

MySportsbook.com Posts Odds on 2007 Heisman Trophy
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best odds of winning the 2007 Heisman Trophy at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
